What Personal Data is Collected and Why
Comments
When a visitor leaves a comment on the site, the data shown in the comments form is collected. Additionally, the visitor’s IP address and browser type string are collected for spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If images are uploaded to the website, any embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included in the images will be collected. Website visitors can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact Form
Name, surname, email, IP address, and browser (not stored).
Cookies
If you leave a comment on the site, you consent to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.
If you visit the login page, a temporary cookie will be set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, several cookies will be set to save your login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. For example, YouTube videos will set a YouTube cookie and read your YouTube account cookies. This site does not interact with external sites, which remain separate and unread.
User Analytics
Data is collected on how users were acquired (source: organic, direct, referral), geographic location, and behavior. No sensitive data is collected; data is gathered by servers and Google Analytics.
Cache
This site has been optimized using caching to facilitate faster response times and a better user experience. Caching potentially stores a duplicate copy of every web page displayed on this site. All cache files are temporary and are never accessible by third parties, except as necessary to obtain technical support from the cache plugin vendor. Cache files expire according to a schedule set by the site administrator but can be easily purged by the administrator before their natural expiration if necessary. HTTP/3 protocols and QUIC.cloud services are used to process and temporarily cache your data. For more details, see https://quic.cloud/privacy-policy/.
Who We Share Your Data With
Data is not transmitted to third parties; it is aggregated within a Google information collection tool called Google Analytics, which does not contain sensitive data and is not shared with other websites. Data travels on a network with a CDN based in Amsterdam.
How Long We Retain Your Data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely.
For users registered on the website (if any), the personal information provided in their user profile is also stored. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). The site administrator can also view and edit that information.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where Your Data is Sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Visitors may also be subject to antivirus checks via the CloudFlare CDN network linked to this site.
